To mark Tourism Constituency Day which is part of national Tourism Week 2017 Oliver Colvile MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport met with Roger Maslin CEO of the National Marine Aquarium.
Oliver’s visit to the Aquarium marked his support for the tourism sector, and during his visit he heard about the charity’s developing new plans under the leadership of the former Wembley stadium boss. Tourism is England’s third largest employer, directly providing jobs for over 1.5m people and generating £85 billion a year for regional communities. Importantly, domestic and inbound tourism expenditure in England has increased by 25% over the last five years and is predicted to grow at around 8% in 2017.
Speaking at the Aquarium, Oliver said: "Plymouth's reputation for Marine Science Engineering Research is known throughout the world - and it is institutions like the National Marine Aquarium that make it so. I am delighted to be here to listen to Roger speak to me about how he plans to take this wonderful facility to the next level. It really is an exciting time to live, work and visit Plymouth".
