Oliver Colvile MP launches campaign to keep the Royal Marines in Plymouth
“Keep our Royal Marines in Plymouth!” – that’s the message that Oliver Colvile has given today (19th October 2016) as the MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport launched his campaign to keep the Royal Marines in Plymouth. This follows the announcement in September by the Ministry of Defence that Stonehouse Barracks would be sold off, with the Royal Marines moved out of there by 2020.
Launching the campaign and petition, Oliver said “For over 350 years, Plymouth has been the home of the Royal Marines. Our brave servicemen and women put themselves on the line so that we can live in safety. It’s time to give them the kit, homes and facilities that they deserve.
“I’m meeting with the Minister next week to discuss the proposals and I will be putting forward my case that Plymouth should still be the home of our wonderful Royal Marines. I’d urge everyone in our City and across the country to join me in calling for the Government to ensure that our Royal Marines stay in Plymouth”.
